Who gave you the opportunity that made a difference? |
|---|---|
| Carmelo Anthony | My family, especially my mom, gave me the opportunity that made the difference. They have always been there for me, supporting and guiding me. Without them, I may have strayed off course, but they always helped me see the bigger picture and keep me on the right path. I was also very lucky to have good friends, coaches, and mentors along the way that also inspired me to stay with my dreams. |
| Cris Carter | My oldest brother Butch Carter introduced
me to sports which opened up a world of opportunities. I grew up in a single parent household with seven children and Butch was like a father figure. Through his example, I learned that sports are more than a game. It prepares you to win at the ultimate game of life. Butch really inspired me to always give 100% which has contributed to the man I am today. |
| Dale Earnhardt, Jr. | My father helped me by not doing everything for me. He made me earn my own way and made sure I had to learn to be independent and make my own mistakes. I made a few of them, but I learned a lot more than if he would have just told me everything. |
| Sergio Garcia | My parents. |
| Sen. John McCain | I don't understand why Mr. Ravenel, head of the English Department and my junior varsity football coach at Episcopal High School, took an interest in me. His regard for me signaled to my classmates that I had some merit despite the fact that they and I had to strain to see it. I've never forgotten the confidence his praise gave me. Nor have I ever forgotten the man who praised me. |
| Grace Park | My family gave me the opportunity that made the difference. My entire family, especially my mother and father, supported me as I worked to become the best golfer in the world. From a very young age, my family gave me the means and provided me with every opportunity to succeed on the golf course and in life. |
| General H. Hugh Shelton (Ret.) | I attribute the success I've enjoyed to my hard-working parents whose sacrifices enabled me to obtain a degree and be commissioned as a lieutenant in the United States Army. They always stressed the importance of character and instilled in me their values of integrity, honesty, and selfless service to others. |
| Annika Sorenstam |
My parents, with their love, support, and guidance gave me the opportunity to become the person I am today and for that I am so grateful. |
| Ty Votaw | My high school English teacher, Nancy Dove, made all the difference to me and my success. My appreciation of good writing...would not have been possible without her and without the appreciation (and her inspiration). I would not have started down the path to where I am now. |
| Erik Weihenmayer | It's all those who have believed in me. Many see barriers, but others see possibilities. On the summit of Mt. Everest, I stood on the shoulders of rare people, friends who didn't buy into the notion, "Seeing is believing," but understood just the opposite: "Believing is seeing!" |
