When Father Paul Sheridan, S.J., founded Boys Hope Girls Hope in 1977, he had a vision of creating a privately funded, nationwide network of warm and loving homes where talented children from backgrounds with significant stressors could live, flourish, and achieve academically.
There are now affiliates in 15 U. S. cities as well as Brazil, Peru, Mexico and Guatemala.
Detroit was among the first U.S. cities to respond to Father Sheridan's vision by creating an affiliate in 1984 and opening its first home in 1985.
Today, Boys Hope Girls Hope of Detroit operates 2 homes, one for boys and one for girls, in established residential neighborhoods in Northwest Detroit. In 2008 Boys Hope Girls Hope of Detroit created a Community Base Program serving scholars in southwest Detroit.
