Services

Children generally enter the program between the ages of 10 and 14 and live in our homes through high school graduation. Placement in our homes is voluntary on part of the child and his or her parent(s) or guardian, and the program facilitates regular contacts and counseling where appropriate with the child's family.

Residential Program offers:

  • A family style home focusing on the development of values and character.
  • Education in quality college-preparatory elementary and secondary schools.
  • Professional, live-in residential counselors who provide structure, guidance, and nurturing.
  • Room, board, tuition, and personal needs allowance.
  • Medical, dental, and optical services.
  • Tutoring and professional therapeutic counseling, as needed.
  • Leadership development through community service and extracurricular activities.
  • Financial assistance through college.

College Mentoring Program
The College Mentoring Program works to secure admission to the most educationally challenging, post-secondary school that is consistent with the youth's personal goals and abilities.   Steps to achieving this include:

  • Prepare scholars for their college entrance exams, college interviews and building a resume.
  • Participate in the college search process, including campus visits.
  • Assist scholars in college applications, essays, financial aid forms

After-Care Services
All children admitted to Boys Hope Girls Hope receive after-care services designed to meet their individual needs upon completion of the residential program, usually at the time of high school graduation. Including:

  • Financial assistance for tuition, room, and board.
  • Emotional support and mentoring while on campus.
  • Temporary housing at Boys Hope Girls Hope during college breaks.
  • Assistance in securing internships and employment.
  • Follow-up contact to access a youth's reintegration into the family.
  • Extension of counseling services where needed.
  • Support and guidance for the primary caregiver.
  • Assistance with referral services.

School Based Enrichment Program
In keeping with the overall mission of Boys Hope Girls Hope, the purpose of the school-based enrichment program is to provide language/vocabulary enrichment for capable students.  While it does include a tutoring component, the overall goal is to provide bright children with experiences and interactions that will enhance their development.  The focus of the program will be on bright students from Spanish-only or limited-English homes whose lack of language skills holds them back in school.  The specific purpose is to provide these children with an opportunity to improve their command of English, especially through building their vocabulary.

Family Services
Though Boys Hope Girls Hope is not a traditional family service agency, many parents and guardians benefit from services provided by the program, including information on and referral to community resources, parenting guidance, crisis intervention, and informal counseling.
