Our Services

Residential Services

Children generally enter the program between the ages of 10 and 14, and live in our homes through graduation from high school. Placement in our program is voluntary on the part of the child and his/her parent(s) or guardian, and the program facilitates regular contacts and counseling, where appropriate, with the child's family.

The Boys Hope Girls Hope residential program offers:

  • Education in first-rate elementary and secondary schools
  • Family-like homes focusing on moral and spiritual development
  • Professional live-in counselors who provide structure, guidance and nurturing
  • Room, board, tuition and clothing/personal needs allowance
  • Medical, dental and optical services
  • Professional therapeutic counseling (if needed)
  • Summer athletic and enrichment programs
  • Extended social services for program graduates

College Support and After-Care Services

All children admitted into Boys Hope Girls Hope receive after-care services designed to meet their individual needs upon completion of our residential program, usually at the time of high school graduation.

They include:

  • financial assistance for college tuition, books, room and board
  • emotional support and mentoring while on campus
  • temporary housing at Boys Hope Girls Hope during college breaks
  • assistance in securing internships and employment
  • follow-up contact to assess a child's reintegration into the family and community
  • extension of counseling services where needed
  • support and guidance for the primary caregiver
  • sharing of assessment materials with other agencies serving the child or family

Family Services

Though Boys Hope Girls Hope is not a traditional family services agency, many parents and guardians benefit from services provided by the program, including information on and referral to community resources, parenting guidance, crisis intervention and informal counseling.

Central to Our Mission

Emphasis on Education
Our children attend first-rate schools and are taught organizational and study skills. Mandatory study periods are held in the homes during the school week and tutoring and special academic programs are provided to those who require additional support. All of the children are expected to attend periodic cultural and enrichment activities. College is the goal and the program provides college financial assistance to high school graduates.

Value-Centered Homes
Children live in neighborhood homes with qualified live-in counselors who provide support, guidance and discipline. Only qualified professionals serve as live-in staff. Respect for each individual is the basic rule of all Boys Hope Girls Hope homes, where children share rooms and are expected to assist counselors with a variety of daily living tasks.

Extra-curricular Activities
Through required participation in extra-curricular activities at school and within the community, children learn leadership, sportsmanship, loyalty and responsibility. Summer enrichment experiences and sports camps are offered to children under the age of 16. Older children are required to obtain full-time summer jobs in order to begin saving for college.

Firm Moral Structure
Growth in faith and an understanding of God’s purpose in one’s life go hand-in-hand with personal development in other areas. Our children are expected to develop themselves spiritually and participate in weekly worship of their family faith tradition. Positive moral values are emphasized in all aspects of life in the homes. All children are required to participate in community service activities.

Support Services
After-care services are provided to program graduates as well as children no longer participating in the residential program.
