ADMISSIONS

There must be a documented need for admission, and the parent(s) or legal guardians must support the child's participation in the program.

Candidates must:

  • Be between the ages of 10-14 at the time of admission.
  • Be capable of succeeding in a rigorous academic environment.
  • Be free of serious learning disorders and emotional/behavioral issues.
  • Be drug- and alcohol-free.
  • Understand and accept the expectations of Boys Hope Girls Hope and voluntarily participate.
  • Need an "out-of-home" placement.
  • Be open to a long-term, value-centered, nurturing residential setting.
  • Have the ability to relate positively to both peers and authority.
  • Have the support of his/her family.

Application Process

Contact Anita Barry, Program Director of Boys Hope Girls Hope of Southern California, to discuss the possibility of admission. A personal interview will be arranged between the referral agent (if applicable), Boys Hope Girls Hope, the child, and the family.

Following a successful interview, the following materials should be submitted to Boys Hope Girls Hope by the child's parent(s) or legal guardian:

  • Application;
  • Academic and immunization records;
  • Letter from the child to the Board of Directors of Boys Hope Girls Hope of Southern California requesting consideration.

Once Boys Hope Girls Hope has received the completed application, arrangements will be made for psychological and academic testing, and child and family visit to the program.

Following the testing and visit, the Program Committee of the Board of Directors determines a youth's acceptance into the program. Typically, the process takes between four and six weeks.
