Become a Volunteer
Each Boys Hope Girls Hope scholar understands the program's mission and works hard to live up to its ideals - to reach their personal and academic potential and to become "men and women for others."
Our volunteers supplement the work of our program staff, providing the dedicated support needed to help these scholars leverage their academic opportunities and make the most of their talents. Because our program is residential, college preparatory, and focused on the individual, it is small and offers many opportunities for volunteers to have very meaningful and direct impact.
The scholars of Boys Hope Girls Hope, like all children, will help shape the future of our community. For this reason, we believe it is important for them to interact with volunteers who can share their diverse talents and be role models for good citizenship. Your presence and expertise can help enlighten and motivate these children, making a tremendous difference in their lives.
How can you help our scholars?
Become a Tutor
A tutor comes once a week to twice per month between 3:30 - 9:30 p.m. Sunday - Thursday. No experience tutoring required. Duties can include explaining concepts, reviewing, test preparation, teaching study skills, flash card drills and more. This is a great way to have an instant impact on our youth. A minimum six month commitment is required. Average time commitment of 4-8 hours per month. Tutors are always appreciated for various academic subjects such as, but not limited to, the following:
* Spanish and French tutors do not necessarily need to be fluent.
Become a Mentor
Boys Hope Girls Hope is searching for people who want to serve as mentors for our scholars and help open the door to their future. Help our scholars:
Explore the area of their career interest.
Apply to college.
Become culturally enriched by sponsoring a visit to an art museum, an afternoon concert, or a sporting event.
We ask that mentors:
Commit to the program for a minimum of one (1) year.
Have the enthusiasm to spend one to two hours per week with a scholar.
Have a genuine interest in our scholars.
Possess the desire to serve as a positive role model for our scholars.
Become a Drop-off Dinner Parent
Like many families, our scholars enjoy dinner together every night. A dinner parent buys and/or cooks a meal once a month for our Fullerton or Tustin homes for approximately ten (10) people. This is a great opportunity to try out new recipes or old favorites. To make it easier on you, a staff member will even arrange meeting with you to make sure the meal gets to our homes! A minimum six month commitment is requested.
Help with Home Repairs
We have home repair projects available such as painting, installing insulation, gardening, and other miscellaneous projects. Groups are welcome. Average time commitment is at least one 4-8 hour day project.
Help With an Upcoming Event
Boys Hope Girls Hope of Southern California hosts three special events in every year, including our annual golf tournament. These are important fundraisers for the program as well as friendraisers that provide a terrific opportunity to network with other community members.
You can learn more about our upcoming events by visiting our News & Events page.
